Ignite Spark Midseason Surge with Comeback Victory Over Supernovas

Fishers, IND – The Indy Ignite solidified their status as the team to beat in Major League Volleyball yesterday, overcoming a slow start to defeat the Omaha Supernovas in four sets (17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13). Played before a crowd of nearly 4,500 at the Fishers Event Center, the victory extended Indy’s franchise-best winning streak to six matches. The win also carries significant weight for the standings, moving the Ignite to a league-leading 12-2 record as the season hits its midway point.

Omaha appeared to have the upper hand early, breaking a 13-13 tie in the first set to claim a decisive 25-17 win. However, the momentum shifted entirely in the second set when Indy head coach Lauren Bertolacci inserted outside hitter Kayla Lund into the lineup. Lund, returning to significant action after a month-long knee injury, proved to be the “cleaner upper” the team needed. She delivered an astonishing performance, racking up 14 kills on 20 swings—a .700 hitting percentage—alongside 10 digs to record a double-double.

The third set was a tighter affair, with the Supernovas clawing back to within a single point at 21-20. It was Anna DeBeerwho eventually slammed the door shut, scoring the Ignite’s final three points—including a clinical service ace—to take the set 25-21. DeBeer finished the night as the match’s leading scorer for Indy with 19 total points, including 13 kills and three blocks, showcasing why she has been one of the most consistent forces in the league this season.

By the fourth set, the Ignite offense reached a “flow state,” hitting at a blistering .636 clip in the final frame. The Supernovas simply had no answer for the varied attack orchestrated by setter Mia Tuaniga, who finished the match with 52 assists and 11 digs. While Omaha’s Emily Londot put up a valiant effort with a match-high 19 points, the Supernovas’ defense eventually crumbled under the pressure of Indy’s record-setting .374 team hitting efficiency.

With the first half of the season now in the books, the Ignite sit three games clear of their nearest competitors. They will enjoy a week-long break to recharge before returning to the Fishers Event Center on Sunday, March 8, to host the Grand Rapids Rise. As for Omaha, they will look to bounce back and find more defensive consistency as they head into a busy March schedule.
