The Ball State Cardinals overcame a 14 point deficit on Saturday in Muncie, Indiana, to narrowly defeat the Western Michigan Broncos 30 -27. With the victory, the (5-1) Cardinals clinched the MAC West Division and a trip to Ford Field in Detriot to face the MAC East champion (5-0) Buffalo Bulls.
The Cardinals scored 17 points unanswered, including a 22-yard field goal by Jack Knight with 29 seconds remaining in the game who had missed two extra points earlier.
The Broncos still had time for a wild last-ditch effort, which they nearly pulled off. Skyy Moore scored a touchdown after several laterals, and the Cardinals prematurely rushing the field. A penalty wiped out the potentially winning touchdown for an illegal forward pass during the chaotic last play.
The Cardinals will face Buffalo for the MAC title on Friday, December 18th at 7:30 pm on ESPN.
