LSU Edges Kentucky in Thrilling Gymnastics Showdown

Lexington, KY – The highly anticipated matchup between the No. 3 LSU Tigers and the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats lived up to its billing, delivering a thrilling contest on Friday, February 21, 2025. LSU ultimately emerged victorious, securing a 197.200-197.075 win in Lexington, but the Wildcats put up a formidable fight in front of a spirited home crowd.

LSU demonstrated its depth and resilience throughout the meet. Despite some uncharacteristic wobbles, particularly on vault, the Tigers showcased their talent across all four events. The uneven bars proved to be a strong starting point for LSU, with several gymnasts posting impressive scores. The consistent performances of freshman Kailin Chio and the return of Haleigh Bryant to the all-around competition proved to be very impactful. The Tigers showed their ability to perform under pressure.

Kentucky, fueled by the energy of their home crowd, delivered a series of standout performances. The Wildcats showcased their strength on the floor exercise, posting an impressive team score. Isabella Magnelli’s exceptional performances on vault and beam were highlights of the night, and Creslyn Brose’s floor routine was a crowd pleaser. Kentucky demonstrated that they’re a force to be reckoned with, and their ability to win event titles on all apparatuses shows a well rounded team.

Kailin Chio of LSU had a stellar performance, winning the all-around title and demonstrating her consistency across all events. Her high scores on vault and beam were crucial in securing the victory for the Tigers. Haleigh Bryant also had a very strong showing, proving her elite level of gymnastics. The meet was a testament to the high level of competition within the SEC, highlighting the depth of talent in collegiate gymnastics.

While LSU secured the win, the meet underscored the competitive nature of SEC gymnastics. Both teams displayed exceptional athleticism and skill, providing an exciting spectacle for fans. The final scores being so close, shows how competitive the two teams are. The meet provided great entertainment, and also showed how the two teams are improving throughout the 2025 season.
