Fever Lose a Close One to Mercury

INDIANAPOLIS — Kahleah Copper scored 28 points and the Phoenix Mercury rallied after Caitlin Clark left with a back injury, edging the Indiana Fever 111–109 on Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Copper went 15 of 16 at the free‑throw line and added three rebounds for the Mercury, who erased an early double‑digit deficit and closed the game on a decisive fourth‑quarter run. Alyssa Thomas finished with 24 points and eight assists, and Valeriane Ayayi scored a career‑high 19.

Indiana led 35–29 after the first quarter and shot 72% from the field in the opening period. Clark had 19 points and eight assists before exiting with 5:15 remaining in the third quarter. She did not return.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 30 points and hit seven 3‑pointers for the Fever (10–8). Aliyah Boston added 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

A flagrant foul on Boston with 2:12 left led to four Phoenix free throws and a six‑point swing that put the Mercury ahead for good. Indiana pulled within two in the final seconds but could not convert on its last possession.

Phoenix improved to 6–13 and avenged its loss to Indiana two nights earlier.
