Purdue Advances to Sweet 16

Braden Smith looks to lead Purdue to the Sweet 16.

The Purdue Boilermakers advance to the Sweet 16 after their dominant victory over Utah State 106-67 Sunday afternoon. As Zack Edey said after the game, “Nobody is satisfied with where we are now. I didn’t come back to make the Sweet 16. I came back to make a deep run.” He sounds ready, and after this team’s performance, Purdue looks ready to take that trip to Phoenix in April.

Zack Edey had 23 points and 14 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Utah State had no answer for him. Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 18 points and looked good in the paint as well. Fletcher Loyer scored 15 points.

The 106 points Purdue scored set a school record for most points in a March Madness game. Edey became the first player since Lew Alcindor to have at least 50 points and 35 rebounds through the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

The last time Purdue made it to the Elite Eight was in 2019 when they lost to Virginia. Gonzaga will be the first test in Detroit on Friday as Purdue looks to continue its journey to greatness.
