Career Night for Emma Cannon, Fever Win

Emma Cannon scores a career high 23 points in the victory vs Phoenix,

Emma Cannon scores a career high 23 Points to lead the Fever to victory 72-71 over the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night. Cannon started in place of Victoria Vivians and took advantage of the opportunity. Cannon’s biggest shot of the night came with 59.5 seconds to go when she hit the final shot that put the Fever up for good. After a few misses by the Mercury victory was secured for the Fever. Kelsay Mitchell added 21 points in the victory.

Diana Taurasi showed Indiana why she is a special player. The first half she was basically scoring at will ending it with 23 of the Mercury’s 43 points. Taurasi ended the game with 29 points. She was 10 of 16 from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point land.  She is now 18 points away from scoring 10,000 career points. Brittney Griner was not with the team due to mental health issues.

One of the key factors to victory was the play of Lexie Hull. After a long first half of keeping up with Diana Taurasi and her 23 points, Hull refocused and was ready for Taurasi holding her to only 6 points in the second half. It was a challenge the young Fever star was stepped up for and it was big. Points in the paint was huge as well. The fever outscored scored Phoenix 38-18 in the paint.

The Fever are now 7-19 for the season and this was their 2nd victory at home for the season. This was a much-needed win for the Fever. It will boost their confidence in knowing they can close out a close game.
