Rutgers Stuns Purdue Again

Rutgers Stun #1 Purdue 65-64 at Mackey Arena.

Rutgers stuns #1 Purdue for the second time in two seasons. Last year it was a half court buzzer beater. This year it was a Cam Spencer 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds to go in the game. Purdue had two chances to take the lead back but failed to do so. Rutgers won 65-64 in front of the 49th straight sellout crowd at Mackey Arena.

Zack Edey was in early foul trouble which took Purdue out of their usual game plan. Edey finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Fletcher Loyer had hit a three pointer with 29.3 seconds to go to put Purdue ahead, but they could not stop Cam Spencer’s three pointer. Ethan Morton had a good shot, but it hit the front of the rim. Them with 0.4 seconds to go the Boilermakers could not get a shot in time.

Matt Painter said to reporters, “We know what’s coming. What Rutgers did tonight didn’t shock us. If we were going to war, we’d stop by New Jersey and pick them up.”

Purdue has another tough Big Ten match up Thursday at #24 Ohio State.
