Shorthanded IUPUI lose to Oakland

B.J. Maxwell leads scoring with 15 points vs Oakland.

The IUPUI Jaguars long season has come to an end. The Jaguars opened the KEEPS Horizon League Tournament on Tuesday night against Oakland with only five players ready to play. Injuries have plagued the team all season, but heart has driven the team to continue.  Matthew Crenshaw and the Jags season came to an end with a 70-58 loss to Oakland. B.J. Maxwell lead the scoring for IUPUI with 15 points. Chuks Isitua had 14 rebounds. The team finished with a 3-26 record. Turnovers,20 of them, hurt the Jaguars throughout the game but they did do well outrebounding Oakland 30 to 28. Oakland started off hot with a 13-2 advantage, but IUPUI battled back to cut their deficit to 26-21 at halftime.

The playing with heart and dedication was seen after the team held open tryouts in February. About 90 students showed up for the tryout but the staff decided to finish the season with the players who chose to stick it out. Six of them chose to stay. That resulted in the team beating Robert Morris on February 17, 66-56 on the road. This was their only victory over a Division-1 team for the year. The team has already signed four recruits for next season and are working to add more this off season.
