Tina Charles and the Liberty Stand Tall in Defeating the Fever

The New York Liberty defeated the Fever by the score of 82-76 on Tuesday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. This snapped a 8 game losing streak for the Liberty. New York started the game hot by shooting 55% from the field and 66.7% from three point land. Their biggest lead of the quarter was 15. 

The Fever fought back by shooting 50% from the field in the second quarter and scoring 14 points in the paint. Despite the hot Tina Charles scoring 11 of her 21 first half points in the quarter, the Fever cut into their deficit at the half and trailed by 6 at halftime.

In the third quarter the Fever turned on the defense and played inside the paint more scoring 12 points inside and scored 6 points on second chance shots. The Fevers defense shut Tina Charles down as she went 0-5 for the quarter scoring no points. This helped the Fever cut their deficit down to 4 at the end of the third quarter.

The forth quarter is where the Liberty chipped away to victory with Bria Hartley scoring 11 of her 16 points. The Fever went cold only shooting 18.8%. Rookie Teaira McCowan lead all in scoring for the night with 24 points. Tina Charles of the Liberty had 23 points and 14 rebounds and Kia Nurse finished with 20 points.

On a happy note for the Fever, Erica Wheeler with her 5 assist on the night became the Fever’s single-season assist leader passing Tamika Catchings’ mark of 143 in 2005.
