Indianapolis,IN – Banker’s Life Fieldhouse- In the 1st round of the BIG10 tournament, #14 Illinois went up against #11 Purdue. Illinois has been on a 5 game losing streak and hoping to break it to advance to the next round tomorrow. Purdue hasn’t fared much better with a 3 game losing streak.
In the 1st half, both teams had played really well. Both shooting around 50% from the field. Both teams were easily able to move the ball inside for easy buckets. Purdue made one more shot from 3 going 3-11. Purdue led at the half 39-33. The 2nd half was all Boilermakers. They started to pull away early and never looked back. They continued to get easy baskets in the paint and settled down shooting from the 3 point line. On the other end, Illinois continued to struggle from beyond the arc. They were also out rebounded by the Boilermakers 43 to 25. Purdue just kicked it into gear to move on in the tournament. Purdue’s K. McLaughlin led the team in scoring with 17 points and going 5-13 from the field. Purdue took this game 72-60 and will move on to the 2nd round. They will play tomorrow at approx. 9pm vs #6 Nebraska.
