Mad Ants struggle in home opener against Iowa

Just a few days removed from a heartbreaking overtime loss on the road to the Motor City Cruise, the Indiana Mad Ants returned home for the first for their home opener against the Iowa Wolves, hoping to get back to .500.

It wasn’t meant to be, though.

While the game was close in almost every stat category and the Mad Ants getting the edge in most areas of the game, defense was the name of the game for the Wolves, out-stealing and out-blocking the Mad Ants throughout the game.

The Mad Ants kept the game at a point margin of between six and ten points throughout most of the game and, though they trailed by almost 20 at one point, still found a way to cut the Iowa lead down to six in the second half.

The Wolves out-hustled the Mad Ants on numerous occasions, scrambling for loose balls, getting multiple second-chance points and playing a much faster and composed game, which you’d expect from a 3-0 team.

There isn’t much to worry about for Mad Ants fans yet. Last season, the team started off slow and had trouble gelling early in the season too and ended up in the playoffs.

Indiana has a lot of time to work with between now and their next game, when they face off with Iowa again Monday night at home in a rematch where the team needs to come out of the gate playing faster, harder and more confident in order to avoid an early three-game losing streak.
