Thursday night in front of a record crowd of 13,046 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana two of the top Women’s Big Ten battled it out. Iowa came into the game riding an eight-game winning streak while Indiana entered the game with its highest AP poll ranking and a ten-game winning streak.
The matchup featured two of the leading women for Big Ten Player of Year with Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and Indiana’s Mackenzie Holmes. Iowa’s Clark finished the game with 38 points but was on ly 3 for 11 behind the three-point line, and she had eight turnovers. Indiana’s Holmes finished the game with 24 points and six rebounds. Indiana’s fifth-year senior Grace Berger led the way in scoring with 26 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
The game was tied at halftime 39 all, but a strong third quarter by Indiana had them up by five 62 -57, and they never let go of the lead defeating Iowa 87-78. Next for Indiana is a road trip to Columbus, Ohio as they will face Ohio State on February 13 with a 7 pm tipoff.
