On Friday, the #12 Kentucky women’s gymnastics team won their home opener for the 2023 season in front of crowd of 10,558 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY, defeating the #10 LSU Tigers by a final result of 197.125 to 196.525. The annual Excite Night helped generate an exciting atmosphere helping propel the Wildcats to an insurmountable lead after three rotations.
The Tigers’s Haleigh Bryant took home the all-around honors with a score of 39.575. Other notable performances on the night included Isabella Magnelli’s 9.925 vault, Bryant’s 9.950 bar routine, Arena Worley’s 9.950 balance beam and a 9.925 for Hailey Davis on the floor exercise. Internet sensation Olivia Donne warmed up for the uneven bars, but ended up being a last minute scratch and did not participate, much to the disappointment of many of the fans in attendance.
The Wildcats are on the road to Athens, GA, on January 20th before returning home to Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 27th to face Alabama.
