After traveling woes, Fever fall short to Lynx

The Indiana Fever matched up with the Minnesota Lynx and came into the game with a 5-6 record on the season, and were looking to get back to the .500 mark.

1st half

1st qtr- After the feeling out period, Minn jumped to an early lead and knocking down several high percentage shots in a row. Rookie Center McCowan (who started tonight’s game) was taken out mid 1st qtr after picking up 2 fouls. The Fever just couldn’t get rolling on offense only scoring 12 points in the opening frame. Miscommunication on offense, and inability to create good shots plagued the Fever. Minnesota was rolling on both ends of the court and only taking inside shits and driving hard to the rim.

2nd qtr- Fever found their way inside a few more times and a few turnovers that lead to easy baskets got the fever moving a long a bit more fluidly, but they couldn’t stop the Lynx inside game, and let Minnesota Have a few wide open shots from beyond the arc. Fever really struggled after the 1st minute or 2 of the quarter to get anything to drop and only scored 12 points in the quarter. They trailed at half 20 points 23-43.

2nd half

3rd qtr- Fever finally got it going near the end of the 3rd. They were able to hold off scoring attempts from the Lynx or at least answer back throughout most of the quarter. Then it seemed to click for Fever for a little bit late in the quarter with some good open shots and a steal to lead to and and 1 play. Brought Indiana within 11 of Minnesota. Wheeler came up big with a 3 to bring the deficit to 8. Fever had great offensive possession to end the quarter with McCowan hitting a mid range shot to bring Fever within 8.

4th qtr- Indiana kept the momentum into the 4th with more great play on both ends of the court. With 7:30 left in the game Fever came within 1 point thanks to a drive and score by Kelsey Mitchell. After a 3 second violation Fever went to the line and tied up the game. Kelsey Mitchell made a big basket from mid range to take the lead 63-61. Minnesota quickly came back and jumped back into the lead with some careless errors by the Fever.

Minnesota comes out with a tough 78-74 victory being led by Odyssey Sims who had 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Lynx had 2 other who also scored in double digits Napheesa Collier who had 16 points and Damiris Dantas who also dropped 15 points.

Fever played hard and never gave up which could’ve been excused with their traveling issues they had over the weekend that led the team to having an 8 hour bus ride from Atlanta on Sunday. Fever also had 3 players score in double figured. Mitchell led Fever with 17 points. Wheeler had 13 and McCowan had 11 points.

This brings the Indiana Fever to 5-6 on the season. Their next game is June 28th against the Pheonix Mercury.
