The Lady Boilermakers fall to the Golden Gophers

West Lafayette, IN

Minnesota came into the game on a four game winning streak looking to avenge an earlier loss in January to the Boilermakers.

The game started slow offensively as both teams went back and forth exchanging the lead 5 times and tied 7 times. Minnesota took a 27 to 24 lead into the half.

The second half was a different story. After hanging in the game during the third quarter, Purdue’s shooting went cold thanks to the defensive efforts of Minnesota. In the forth quarter Purdue went 0-11 from the field and 0-4 from three point land. The only point that the Boilermakers made in the forth quarter was from the free throw line. Purdue was out scored 22-2 during the final 11 minutes of the game. Karissa McLaughlin finished the game with 13 points.

Destiny Pitts went 10 for 12 from the field and 2-3 from three point land and lead all scorers with a season high 27 points. This was her eight game in a row scoring double figures. Kenisha Bell finished with 17 points and 4 assists.

The final score was Minnesota 65-45 over the Boilermakers and was the fifth win in a row for The Golden Gophers. This was their first five game winning streak in league play since February of 2015.

This loss is the fifth one in the last six games for the Lady Boilermaker. They will have to rebound quickly as Northwestern is up next at Mackey Arena on Sunday evening at 6pm.
