Purdue among nine Big 10 schools to land Bowl Bids this season

Nine Big Ten schools were selected for bowl competition on Sunday, highlighted by a pair of conference teams that received invitations to New Year’s Six bowls.

Ohio State and Michigan will each compete in New Year’s Six games, with the Buckeyes headed to the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual and Michigan selected for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Six of the nine bowl-bound Big Ten schools will be making their first-ever appearance in their respective bowls. The full Big Ten bowl lineup is as follows (final CFP rankings are listed):

Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual (New Year’s Six Bowl)

  • No. 6 Ohio State vs. No. 9 Washington
  • Jan. 1 – 5:10 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Pasadena, Calif. (Rose Bowl Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Rose Bowl for the 70th time
  • Ohio State is making its 49th bowl appearance, including its 15th trip to the Rose Bowl (first since 2009)

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (New Year’s Six Bowl)

  • No. 7 Michigan vs. No. 10 Florida
  • Dec. 29 – Noon ET (ESPN)
  • Atlanta, Ga. (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Peach Bowl for the eighth time (first since 1990)
  • Michigan is making its 47th bowl appearance and its first-ever trip to the Peach Bowl

VRBO Citrus Bowl

  • No. 12 Penn State vs. No. 14 Kentucky
  • Jan. 1 – 1 p.m. ET (ABC)
  • Orlando, Fla. (Camping World Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Citrus Bowl for the 27th time (first since 2015)
  • Penn State is making its 49th bowl appearance, including its 19th as a member of the Big Ten; the Nittany Lions are making their fifth trip to the Citrus Bowl (first since 2009)

Outback Bowl

  • Iowa vs. No. 18 Mississippi State
  • Jan. 1 – Noon ET (ESPN2)
  • Tampa, Fla. (Raymond James Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Outback Bowl for the 30th time
  • Iowa is making its 32nd bowl appearance, including its sixth trip to the Outback Bowl

San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl

  • No. 22 Northwestern vs. No. 17 Utah
  • Dec. 31 – 7 p.m. ET (FS1)
  • San Diego, Calif. (SDCCU Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Holiday Bowl for the 14th time
  • Northwestern is making its 15th bowl appearance; the Wildcats will play in the Holiday Bowl for the first time

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl

  • Purdue vs. No. 18 Mississippi State/Auburn
  • Dec. 28 – 1:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Nashville, Tenn. (Nissan Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Music City Bowl for the seventh time
  • Purdue is making its 19th bowl appearance and its first-ever trip to the Music City Bowl

New Era Pinstripe Bowl

  • Wisconsin vs. Miami
  • Dec. 27 – 5:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Bronx, N.Y. (Yankee Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Pinstripe Bowl for the fifth time
  • Wisconsin is making its 30th bowl appearance and its first-ever trip to the Pinstripe Bowl

Redbox Bowl

  • Michigan State vs. Oregon
  • Dec. 31 – 3 p.m. ET (FOX)
  • Santa Clara, Calif. (Levi’s Stadium)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Redbox Bowl for the sixth time
  • Michigan State is making its 28th bowl appearance, while this will be the Spartans’ first-ever trip to the Redbox Bowl

Quick Lane Bowl

  • Minnesota vs. Georgia Tech
  • Dec. 26 – 5:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)
  • Detroit, Mich. (Ford Field)
  • A Big Ten school will play in the Quick Lane Bowl for the fourth time
  • Minnesota is making its 20th bowl appearance, while this will be the Gophers’ first-ever trip to the Quick Lane Bowl
