Komets fall to Idaho

The Ft Wayne Komets, as of late have been up and down, with injuries and call ups they have lost key players such as Sean St-Amant, but with additions to the team from their affiliates they have been struggling to get the wins when it counts.

They were on an eight-game losing streak that started around Christmas and would continue into the new year, and was finally snapped against the Indy Fuel where they won 5-2, and they would come home to face the Idaho Steelheads at home at the Coliseum on Friday night.

The Komets would strike first on an Anthony Petruzzelli goal late in the first but a power play for the Steelheads would prove to be too much for the defense and goal tender Munson who would stop 15 shots in the first period, Idaho would out shoot the K’s in the first and continue into the 2nd the Steelheads would go up 2 to 1 in the third.

Komets would tie the game up at 2 on another Petruzzelli goal this time on a power play goal. Shortly after the Steelheads would put another in to make it 3 to 2 and that would be all they needed to seal the victory.

The Komets were outshot 34 to 19 and had 16 penalty minutes despite the loss Patrick Munson stopped 31 shots total from the Steelheads in only his fifth game with the Komet’s despite the lack of defense at times the goalies GAA is not bad.

The Komets go on the road to face division rivals Cincinnati Cyclones who are now ahead of the Komet’s by nine points with just about two months left in the season, the K’s find themselves in the last playoff spot if the season would end today, with several more important games against division opponents they need to find a way to gain some ground on the teams ahead of them.
