Hoosier Women fall at home to Northwestern 75-69

The Indiana University Hoosiers Women’s team has been off to a fantastic start to the season coming into tonight’s game against the Wildcats with a 15-2 record and 4-1 in the BIG 10, and fresh off a win at Wisconsin. Northwestern has held their own in BIG 10 play with a 9-7 record and 2-3 in the Conference.

Northwestern jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back. Northwestern was unbelievable from the field shooting 46% and 57% from the arc. The Wildcats were able to push their lead up to 14 early in the 2nd quarter. Indiana closed out the half with a strong effort and closed the gap to 11 to end the 2nd quarter. Burton is leading the way for Northwestern with 16 points in the 1st half. Yancey leads the Hoosiers with 9 points.

IU kept inching closer and closer in the 3rd quarter pulling within 8 points. Hoosiers Brenna Wise helping lead that fight with 14 points going into the 4th quarter. But, midway through the 4th, the Wildcats were able to negate that effort and pull away to a 18 point lead. Tough defense including a steal by Hoosiers Ali Patburg brought that lead back down again to 8 points with 3 minutes left in the game. The Hoosiers continued to push and eventually bring the lead down to 6 but couldn’t pull off the win.

Despite 4 of the 5 starters for the Hoosiers scoring in double figures, their lackluster defense in the 1st half cost them. Allowing easy baskets in the paint, and just not being able to trap or close in on defense led to their 1st home loss of the season.
