Champaign, IL

The No.12 University of Kentucky gymnastics team hit the road to wrap up their regular season on Saturday at Huff Hall to face No. 22 Illinois and Illinois State. 

The teams were highly competitive, as each displayed impressive skills and routines in front of a packed audience on The Fighting Illini senior day.

The Wildcats started strong on their bar routine with a team score of 49.450. Kentucky’s senior Raena Worley led all gymnasts with a score of 9.925, with Bailey Bunn coming in second with a 9.900 on her routine. 

The Wildcats continued their strong performance onto the beam edging out Illinois 49.375 to 49.225. Illinois Mia Takekawa led all gymnasts on beam with a score of 9.925, Kenutkcy’s senior Raena Worley scored the second highest on the event with a 9.975, and Junior Isabella Magnelli came in third in scoring with a 9.900.

Illinois broke their 2009 team floor score with a 49.575 to edge out Kentucky’s 49.525. Illinois and Kentucky had four gymnasts scoring over 9.900 on their floor routines. Kentucky’s Raena Worley led all gymnasts on the floor with a 9.975. 

The Wildcats took first place to edge out Illinois, and Illinois State came in third with the final scores of UK 197.800, IL 196.800, and ILS 193.850.

Up next for Kentucky is the SEC Championship in Duluth, GA. on Saturday, March 18th. Illinois will head to Iowa for the Big Ten Championship on Saturday, March 18th, and Illinois State will be competing in the MIC Conference Championship in Cape, Girardeau, Mo. on Friday, March 17th.
