Florida Gators Edge Out Oklahoma in Historic SEC Gymnastics Thriller

Tulsa, OK – The Florida Gators reclaimed their throne at the 2026 SEC Gymnastics Championships this past Saturday, March 21, at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In a meet defined by razor-thin margins and elite execution, the No. 3-ranked Gators posted a 198.175 to narrowly defeat the defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, who finished just 0.025 behind with a 198.150. The victory marks Florida’s 13th SEC title in program history and their first since 2023.

The competition lived up to its billing as a “preview of the National Championships,” featuring the top four teams in the nation in the evening session. Florida’s path to victory was anything but certain, as they trailed both Oklahoma and No. 2 LSU (197.950) entering the final rotation. However, the Gators delivered a legendary performance on the uneven bars—the sixth-highest score in NCAA history—to surge past their rivals in the closing moments of the night.

Florida’s bars rotation was headlined by a flawless 10.0 from Selena Harris-Miranda, who secured the individual event title. She was backed by stellar contributions from Skye Blakely and Kayla DiCello, both of whom notched 9.975s. This late-meet explosion allowed Florida to overcome a mid-meet slump on vault and capitalize on a rare opening left by the Sooners, who struggled to find their usual rhythm in the opening rotation.

Oklahoma, competing in their first SEC Championship since joining the conference, proved why they remain the team to beat nationally. Senior Faith Torrez was the emotional leader for the Sooners, sticking a perfect 10.0 on the balance beam to claim the individual title. While Oklahoma clawed back into the lead by the third rotation, they ultimately fell just short when their floor exercise total (49.600) couldn’t quite match the scoring power of Florida’s historic bars set.

Individually, LSU’s Kailin Chio was the standout performer of the entire meet. The sophomore powerhouse captured the All-Around title with a massive 39.775 and added the vault crown to her trophy case with a near-perfect 9.975. Chio’s dominance was a silver lining for the Tigers, who led the meet at the halfway point but eventually settled for third place despite posting the fourth-highest SEC Championship score in program history.

The floor exercise title was a crowded affair, reflecting the high level of talent across the conference. A four-way tie for the gold saw Oklahoma’s Keira Wells and Mackenzie Estep share the honors with LSU’s Kaliya Lincoln and Alabama’s Gabby Gladieux, all of whom recorded 9.95s. Estep’s performance was particularly notable as she became the first freshman to win a conference title since Torrez did so in 2023.

In the afternoon session, the Georgia Bulldogs made a statement by winning the session with a 197.450, the highest Session I score since the SEC moved to the two-session format in 2013. Led by freshman Kelise Woolford’s 9.95 on beam, the Bulldogs finished fifth overall, signaling a major step forward for the program. Alabama took fourth place with a 197.475, anchored by Gladieux’s floor brilliance and a career-high 9.95 on beam from Kylee Kvamme.

As the dust settles in Tulsa, the focus now shifts to the NCAA Regionals. Florida, Oklahoma, and LSU have all secured top seeds, and with the margin of error proved to be non-existent, the road to the National Championships in Fort Worth promises to be one of the most competitive in the history of the sport.
