Purdue Drops Opener to Penn State

Purdue loses season opener to Penn State 35-31. Purdue had a led with about 2 minutes to go in the game. The crown was ready to celebrate the Thursday Night prime time televised home opener. It looked like sure victory for the home crowd, but Purdue just could not protect the ball and close out the game, the Boilermakers had two opportunities to seal the deal but punted the ball away and gave the Nittany Lions on last chance for the comeback with 2 minutes to go. Sean Clifford and the Penn State offense went down the field and scored the winning touchdown. With less than a minute to go Aiden O’Connell and the offense could not get it together for one more run to score.

Purdue ran the ball once during the fourth quarter drives they had the lead. This could leave the blame on Jeff Brohm and the coaching staff. Bad play decisions and clock management in the fourth quarter led to this loss. It’s an early season so improvements will be made to comeback from this loss.

Indiana State will be next for Boilermakers next Saturday. Here is a link to the photo gallery of Purdue vs Penn State by our staff photographer Chris Shaw. Purdue v Penn State – Sept 1 2022 – Indy Sports Daily (smugmug.com)
