The NFL this week announced that Colts tight end Eric Ebron and center/guard Quenton Nelson have been named to the 2019 Pro Bowl. Indianapolis has had at least two players represented in the Pro Bowl dating back to 1999.
Ebron, 6-4, 253 pounds, has appeared in all 14 games (seven starts) this season and has caught 59 passes for 662 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. Ebron is also the only tight end in the NFL this season with a rushing touchdown. Among tight ends, he ranks first in receiving touchdowns, sixth in receptions and fifth in receiving yards. Ebron is one of nine players in the NFL to score at least 13 touchdowns this season. His 12 receiving touchdowns are tied for the second-most in the NFL among all players and are a single-season franchise record for a Colts tight end.
In Week 10 vs. JAX (11/11), Ebron caught three passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. He also registered a two-yard rushing touchdown (first Colts tight end in team history to score a rushing touchdown). Ebron became just the second tight end in NFL history to record two touchdown receptions and one rushing touchdown in the same game.
Nelson, 6-5, 330 pounds, has started all 14 games for the Colts this season at left guard. He is part of an offensive line that has the lowest sacks allowed per pass attempt rate (2.8 percent) this season. The unit is also tied for the fewest sacks allowed (16.0) in 2018. From Weeks 5-12, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck attempted 239 passes without being sacked, which was the third-longest streak in NFL history.
Nelson was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October. He became the first guard in NFL history and the seventh offensive lineman overall to win Rookie of the Month honors. The honor came after the Colts rushed for over 200 yards in two straight games (Week 7-8) for the first time in the same season since 1985. Nelson has helped pave the way for Marlon Mack to register three 100-yard rushing games this season, while quarterback Andrew Luck ranks second in the NFL in passing touchdowns (34).
Nelson is the first Colts rookie offensive lineman selected to the Pro Bowl since guard Chris Hinton in 1983. He is the first Indianapolis offensive lineman selected to the Pro Bowl since center Jeff Saturday in 2010.
